Ensuring Equity and Access for All Students with WCAG-Compliant Newsela

Join in as the Learning Technology Center and ILTPP vendor partner Newsela explore the upcoming compliance changes for Web Content Accessibility. On September 2, 2021, Illinois signed a first-of-its-kind bill (House Bill 26 or “the WCAG bill”) requiring all online education tools used in Illinois classrooms to comply with the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA. This is a critical step toward increasing equity and accessibility in learning for all students, especially those who are often left behind.

During this webinar, we will discuss what WCAG is and what it means for all students learning. We will explore:

  • A checklist to ensure your online tools are WCAG compliant
  • How Newsela’s content -published at 5 reading levels – can support districts with their literacy efforts across the curriculum with an accessible student experience
  • Newsela’s other features designed to enhance accessibility and equity standards
