SEL in Isolation: Maintaining Mindfulness during Distance Learning

These uncertain times have catapulted us into uncharted territories of teaching and learning from a distance. With sudden change comes both innovation and anxiety. How might we continue to support our own, our students, and our families’ social and emotional well being during this time of social isolation? During this webinar, Mackin will explore some practical ways to maintain mindfulness during distance learning.

Deidra Purvis has a B.S. in Secondary Education in English, and has taught in grades 6-12 ELA classrooms, ranging from response to intervention instruction to honors classes. Deidra specializes in developing learning environments which engage diverse learners. With a strong belief that every student must have ample opportunities to see themselves in the books they are reading, Deidra has worked with schools across the country to provide teachers with classroom libraries that serve as windows and mirrors for all students in the classroom. Deidra is also a member of the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English and The Loft Literary Center.

Classroom Specialist Katie Larson is a former Spanish teacher. She uses her knowledge of Spanish literature and language acquisition to assist teachers with their literacy initiatives by developing diverse classroom libraries.
