Microsoft: Discovering Dyslexia

March 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In this episode, Microsoft will discuss how a dyslexic person can be supported in the critical areas of their lives – in school, at home and in the workplace. While there are challenges with each one, Microsoft will discuss key points and highlight the support systems that are out there waiting to be leveraged. Sara Peden, a Psychologist and dyslexia interventionist from Calgary, will provide an overview of the principals of effective literacy instruction for students with dyslexia. Ron Cadez, a principal in the Louis Riel School District in Manitoba, will speak about his experience in implementing these approaches in a Canadian public school. Finally, Kate Griggs, founder of the charity Made by Dyslexia will join the discussion. Kate will explain the vital role dyslexic thinking will play in the future and the importance of spotting & supporting young dyslexics.

Microsoft’s goal is to put the information, tools and resources required to support students with dyslexia into action in every classroom in Canada. This webinar series is intended as a starting point, to help educators navigate the research, and discover new tools and strategies to help students with dyslexia succeed. And what’s more, learning about dyslexia provides an opportunity for educators to positively shift the entire curve. Research has shown that when the educational strategies that students with dyslexia need are used for whole class instruction outcomes improve for everyone!
